About the role

The Plater II is a skilled position responsible for performing a wide range of plating and metal processing functions, including cadmium, nickel, anodizing, passivation, copper stripping, and other surface treatments. This role requires limited supervision and includes responsibilities such as troubleshooting, equipment monitoring, and mentoring less experienced operators. The Plater II contributes to production efficiency and product quality in line with aerospace industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform various plating and cleaning processes including:
  • Abrasive cleaning & Glass beading
  • Titanium Descaling (Hot Salt)
  • Part Washing using Modified Alcohol
  • Aluminum Anodize Sorting
  • Copper strip
  • Strip Phosphate
  • Passivation
  • Electroplating (Cadmium & Nickel)
  • Aluminum Anodizing
  • Titanium Anodizing
  • Chemical Conversion (Chromate)
  • Phosphate-Fluoride
  • X-Ray thickness
• Operate plating equipment such as spin dryers, hoists, bake ovens, and sandblasters.
• Handle chemical processing of parts per customer and internal specifications.
• Monitor plating tanks and safely transfer chemicals using pumps when necessary.
• Support waste reduction efforts and promote sustainability.
• Participate in and support HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) programs, goals, and required training.
• Report safety concerns and nonconformance immediately.
• Mentor and train other employees as directed.
• Inspect and monitor equipment daily, report malfunctions to the Lead or Supervisor.
• Ensure all tools and machines are operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
• Follow blueprints, work instructions, and job travelers to ensure product quality.
• Meet all internal and customer plating specifications and standards.
• Identify and escalate any nonconformance issues or deviations in process.
• Adhere to and implement all company HSE policies, procedures, and practices.
• Continually seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results.
• Implement and suggest waste elimination initiatives such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing or metal processing preferred.
• Experience in aerospace plating or familiarity with NADCAP standards is a plus.
• Must maintain either no facial hair or a NIOSH Approved Beard as per Cal/OSHA regulations and pass an annual respirator fit test.
• Basic proficiency with mainframe computer systems, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
• Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and basic technical procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to read code/machine language, write basic reports, and instructions.
• Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and standard units of measurements.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and follow instructions in written and basic diagram formats.
• Demonstrated application of problem-solving techniques while prioritizing workload and tasks.

Skills

• Technical Skills: Proficient in Quality Assurance and manufacturing processes, including flow, layout, assembly, and inspection equipment. Good understanding of Geometric Tolerance per ANSI Y145. Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, height gages, ring gages, pin gages, go/no-go pin gages, optical comparator, and microscopes. Reads and understands blueprints.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time.
• Requires speaking or listening and eye-hand coordination, repetitive hand and arm movement, and manual dexterity.
• Must regularly bend, reach to shoulder level, and lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Hearing level within normal/average range.

Work Environment

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Compliance with company and governmental safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations and procedures is required.
• Employee will be required to wear personal safety equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, or proper footwear PPE in specified areas.
• Participate in the development and promotion of the HSE culture by:

  • Immediately correcting or reporting any malfunction or risky situation in health, safety, and environmental protection.

Pay

$22.98 - $27.95 per hour

A-Shift: Monday-Thursday, 4:30 AM - 3:00 PM
