About the role
The Plater I is responsible for performing hands-on plating and metal processing operations for aerospace components in accordance with customer and industry standards. This includes surface preparation, cleaning, chemical processing, and operating specialized equipment. The role operates under minimal supervision and contributes to continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Plating & Processing:
- Perform processes including abrasive cleaning & glass beading, titanium descaling (hot salt), part washing using modified alcohol, aluminum anodize sorting, copper strip, strip phosphate, and passivation.
- Perform surface preparation using grit blasting, vapor degreasing wash, and hot salt techniques.
- Operate plating equipment such as spin dryers, hoists, bake ovens, and sandblasters.
- Handle chemical processing of parts per customer and internal specifications.
- Monitor plating tanks and safely transfer chemicals using pumps when necessary.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Inspect and monitor equipment daily; report malfunctions to the Lead or Supervisor.
- Ensure all tools and machines are operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
- Quality & Compliance:
- Follow blueprints, work instructions, and job travelers to ensure product quality.
- Meet all internal and customer plating specifications and standards.
- Identify and escalate any nonconformance issues or deviations in process.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and plating specifications.
- Safety/Compliance:
- Adhere to and implement all company HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) policies, procedures, and practices.
- Comply with rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE procedures.
- Attend all required training and adhere to HSE procedures, policies, and plans.
- Report any known or suspected nonconformance for company procedures or legal requirements to management immediately.
- Seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results.
- Implement and suggest waste elimination initiatives, such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
- Wear personal safety equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, or proper footwear in specified areas.
- Participate in the development and promotion of the HSE culture, including risk analyses and working groups.
Requirements
- Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 0-3 years of experience in manufacturing or metal processing preferred.
- Experience in aerospace plating or familiarity with NADCAP standards is a plus.
- Skills and Abilities:

- Technical Skills: Proficient in quality assurance and manufacturing processes, including flow, layout, assembly, and inspection equipment. Good understanding of geometric tolerance per ANSI Y14.5. Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, height gages, ring gages, pin gages, go/no-go pin gages, optical comparators, and microscopes.

Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
- Requires speaking, listening, and eye-hand coordination; repetitive hand and arm movement; manual dexterity.
- Must regularly bend, reach to shoulder level, and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing level within normal/average range.
Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
