About the role
The Plant Operator II - Water/Wastewater position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. This role involves inspecting plant equipment, taking samples, adjusting treatment plant equipment, and maintaining supplies.
Responsibilities
- Inspects plant equipment and machinery to ensure proper operation.
- Takes samples of water or sewage and performs routine laboratory analyses.
- Adjusts treatment plant equipment based on sample results.
- Cleans and paints equipment, assists mechanics in repairs, and performs general building maintenance.
- Instructs new operators in plant procedures and operations.
- Maintains sufficient supplies of chemicals and cleans bar screens.
- Maintains control panel charts and pressure gauges.
- Answers emergency calls and dispatches personnel.
- Operates motorized equipment and cleans and maintains vacuum trucks.
- Assigns daily tasks to shift operators and reports plant conditions.
- Maintains operation and maintenance logs and submits reports.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or vocational school.
- Two or more years of experience in the operation of electrical and mechanical machinery similar to that in a water and sewer treatment plant.
- Possession of a Class "B" water and wastewater plant operators license from the Florida Department of Professional Regulation.
- Possession of a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement as issued by the State of Florida.
- Valid Class "E" Florida Driver's License.
Qualifications
- Current Incentives/Benefits: Utilities Incentive ($100/pay period, $1000 paid out in June 2026).
- Health Insurance: 100% paid by the Town for single coverage, 50% paid by the Town for dependents.
- Leave: Holidays (13 days per year), Sick Leave (3.69 hours accrued per pay period), Vacation Leave (accrued 2 weeks per year), Birthday Leave (1 day per year), Quality Service (1 day per year), Wellness Days (2 days per year).
- Pension/Retirement: Mandatory 3% contributions per pay period to the Town Sponsored Pension, and access to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
- Uniforms: Provided by the Department.
