Duties

Assume responsibility for financial clerical procedures in a defined associated with invoicing and reconciliation of accounts payables.

Maintain a variety of financial or statistical records requiring the use of independent judgment.

  • Check invoices for proper extensions, taxes, discounts, and totals;
  • Match invoices to purchase orders to ensure that correct items are invoiced and that billing is proper.
  • Post, check, balance and adjust accounts.
  • Schedule, index, and file bills, vouchers, documents, and other material.
  • Keep subsidiary ledgers.
  • Reconcile bank statements.

Check various statistical and accounting tables and reports; accumulate records and compile statements; assist in preparing accounting or statistical reports.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities.
  • A desirable combination is: Experience Three years of significant, directly related and progressive experience in financial record keeping work.
  • Education Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade including or supplemented by training in accounting or a related subject.

Knowledge

Of Specific rules and procedures governing financial clerical work.

General methods and practices of bookkeeping and of financial and statistical record keeping.

General requirements and procedures in an accounting system.

Modern office practices, methods, and equipment.

Ability

To Perform highly responsible and complex clerical procedures in one or more financial areas.

Use independent judgment in maintaining financial and statistical records.

Prepare financial reports.

Make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.

Operate a calculator, adding machine, and other basic office equipment.

Follow oral and written instruction.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others.

Operate a typewriter.

Operate a computer terminal.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS - Certain designated County positions require a candidate to pass a physical examination prior to appointment.

FINGERPRINTING - All employees hired into allocated positions or extra help positions will be fingerprinted.

SELECTION PROCESS - FOR POSITIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT - The selection process will include an oral board interview, psychological assessment, background investigation, and a pre-employment physical exam.
