Plant Operations Manager 3 - Iowa Veterans Home
About the role
The Iowa Veterans Home seeks a Plant Operations Manager 3 to lead their skilled maintenance team and oversee facility infrastructure. This role requires a dynamic, collaborative, and hands-on leader with a minimum of ten years of full-time diversified skilled trades experience, preferably at the managerial level.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and support to a diverse group of professionals including HVAC Technicians, Electricians, Plumbers, Maintenance Repairers, and Power Plant Engineers.
- Mentor and guide team members to foster a safe and efficient workplace.
- Serve as a primary point of contact, ensuring clear and concise communication between internal staff and external contractors.
- Manage teams effectively to meet strict operational deadlines and facility goals.
- Tackle daily operational challenges with analytical thinking and technical expertise to keep the facility running smoothly.
Requirements
- Minimum of ten years of full-time diversified skilled trades experience, two years of which were at the managerial level.
- Technical experience in preparing engineering and/or architectural plans and specifications for commercial and residential buildings.
- Technical experience in the technical inspection of commercial and/or residential buildings for compliance with local, state, and federal building and safety codes.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience substituting 30 semester hours of accredited post high school education in structural, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering for each year of the required experience.
- Employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Plant Operations Manager 2; twenty-four months of full-time work as a Plant Operations Manager 1 or Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor; or forty-eight months of full-time work as a Maintenance Repairs Supervisor.
- Within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority, certain employees may be required to obtain a Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License in accordance with Chapter 100D, Iowa Code.
