Plans Examiner
Responsibilities
Examines plans and specifications for buildings for completeness and conformity with all code requirements of the following design elements: architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, energy conservation regulations, Green Building Standards, Accessibility and Egress.
Captures the review of plans with other public agencies whose approval is necessary; itemizes the required corrections and modifications and explains them to permit applicants.
When requested, authorizes the issue of building permits for plans that meet code and ordinance requirements; calculates fees.
Advises and assists architects, contractors, builders, and the general public with interpretation and application of pertinent building regulations, state laws, and local ordinances.
Sends reports to jurisdictional Building Officials regarding workload and process statistics, new products or situations, and code interpretation issues.
Provides assistance to the public jurisdictional building counters when requested, answering questions related to plans and permitting requirements.
Requirements
- ICC Building Plans Examiner, ICC Accessibility Plans Examiner, and ICC Fire Plans Examiner certifications required.
- Plan Check Engineers and Plan Reviewers are highly desired.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in architectural or building plan review or an equivalent.
- Must possess an ICC Commercial Plans Reviewer Certification and/or Maryland Professional Engineer Registration License to conduct commercial reviews.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
