Planner (Electrical and Maintenance)
Job Summary
This position is a fast-paced, hands-on role that requires frequent field presence and direct interaction with work activities. Employees are expected to regularly perform job walk-downs in operating and maintenance areas to support planning, scheduling, and execution of work. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in industrial environments and collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, contractors, and site leadership. Onsite attendance is required five days per week.
About the Role
Develops maintenance plans and work packets at an appropriate level of detail considering the size, complexity, and criticality of the job. Coordinates maintenance work schedules with operating and maintenance groups to ensure maintenance requirements to support reliable and efficient unit operations are addressed. Places high priority on environmental equipment and systems maintenance to assure compliance with environmental permits and procedures. Emphasizes the commitment to performing all work in compliance with environmental procedures with crafts and contractors. Issues accurate equipment clearance requests understanding the safety aspects of the job and relaying this understanding to the people involved with the ECR. Assumes duties of maintenance supervisor during absences due to vacation, illness, or special assignment. Responds to emergency calls outside of normal scheduled hours. Develops work scopes and bids specifications for work performed by contracted resources. Manages projects performed by outside contractors in accordance with the Contractors Information Handbook. Performs real time cost tracking of projects to ensure projects are completed within budget. Works closely with Material and Contract Services on material and contract labor procurement issues and dispute resolution. Applies complete cost and labor estimates for all maintenance tasks assigned to crews or the backlog to support the work management and budget process. Develops capital and O&M budget initiatives necessary to ensure long-term reliability of critical generating equipment. Assists in the development of short outage plans to ensure work that is required to support unit reliability is prepared and can be efficiently executed when outage opportunities become available on short notice. Assists operating departments in monitoring equipment and troubleshooting.
Essential Functions

- Captures material/parts listings, procedures, drawings, and equipment clearance requests in work packets.
- Collaborates with operating and maintenance groups to coordinate maintenance work schedules.
- Ensures environmental equipment and systems maintenance is prioritized to comply with environmental permits and procedures.
- Issues accurate equipment clearance requests, emphasizing safety aspects and communicating these to relevant parties.
- Serves as a maintenance supervisor during absences, assuming responsibilities normally handled by a supervisor.
- Responds to emergency calls outside of regular working hours.
- Develops work scopes and bids specifications for contracted resources.

Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a power plant, utility, construction, industrial, manufacturing, electrical, maintenance, operations, or related technical environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven technical competence and understanding of maintenance, operations, construction, industrial processes, or related technical disciplines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Willingness and ability to spend significant time in the field performing job walk-downs and coordinating work activities.
- Knowledge of various computer software packages including maintenance management systems, project management software, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and planning skills.
- Ability to encourage teamwork, participation, and individual accountability.
- Understanding of and ability to apply maintenance and work management processes.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Business, or a related field, and/or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Experience in power generation, utilities, heavy industrial facilities, electrical systems, manufacturing, or large-scale construction projects.
- Training in Master Standard Data (application of engineered benchmark standards).
- Experience planning and coordinating outage, maintenance, construction, or capital project work.
- Experience using enterprise work management and procurement systems such as Maximo, SAP, Ariba, or similar maintenance, asset management, and supply chain platforms.
