PIPING SUPERINTENDENT I

About the role

Responsible for work which includes coordination, installation and repair of piping and equipment for mechanical systems. Individuals should be able to read and understand blueprints, communicate effectively with all other persons on the job-site, including sub-contractors, and work as a team with other departments and divisions. Represents TP Mechanical Contractors in a professional manner. Should also be able to accept direction and/or lead and delegate work.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all on‑site activity regarding manpower, materials and scheduling.
• Point of contact for the customer/general contractor/owner.
• Ensures safety is the number one priority on the job‑site; conducts pre‑safety meeting before job begins, weekly safety reports and toolbox talks.
• Has completed OSHA 30‑hour training at a minimum.
• Conducts appropriate preplanning when assigned a new job: reviewing plans and specs, identifying prefab opportunities, understanding scope of work, material take‑off, crew size, tools and equipment needed.
• Directs all coordination issues; reviews drawings with CAD designer before printing and signs off; reviews and signs off on all drawings going to the FAB shop; attends all coordination meetings involving our scope of work.
• Minimizes downtime by scheduling work for employees, other trades and subs.
• Lays out work for crew at least one week in advance.
• Ensures all tools, equipment and material are on‑site when needed and returned when not needed; maintains contingency plan to keep crew productive.
• Checks productivity standards against estimate versus actual installation; utilizes Four Week Look Ahead, sets goals for the team and rewards when goals are met.
• Handles all orders and deliveries, ordering only what is needed, keeping returns to a minimum; follows up on back orders and releases PO’s as needed.
• Orders material by area utilizing the Bag and Tag method and keeps an updated submittal log.
• Communicates at least once per week with the Project Manager regarding productivity, RFIs, submittals, schedules, manpower issues, etc.
• Walks the job daily to inspect progress, quality and safety.
• Manages personnel, subs and vendors appropriately, building teamwork and morale through fair and honest decision‑making.
• Closes out each job: ensures final testing is complete, start‑up and demonstration signed off on company form by owner and turned over to Project Manager.
• Completes valve tag chart and stenciling; ensures as‑built drawings are complete and turned over to Project Manager.
• Completes punch‑list and obtains owner sign‑off.
• Cleans up and demobilizes each job: returns excess material to suppliers (providing list to Project Manager) and cleans out trailers (sweep and mop office trailer).
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years commercial experience in field plumbing, sprinkler or heating operations.
• Stable work history.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Knowledge of general plumbing and piping installation.
• Ability to fabricate offsets.
• Working knowledge of all hand and power tools.
• Able to do basic take‑offs.
• Able to install equipment.
• Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy and productivity.
• Good communication skills.
• Good math skills.
• Eyesight correctable to 20/50.
• Able to work long hours on feet.
• Able to lift and climb ladders and scaffolds.
• Able to perform shift work.
• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must not be afraid of heights.
• Valid driver’s license.
• State/Journeyman trade license.
• Must provide own basic hand tools.
