Full-time, in-person position at a Midwest fabrication shop reporting to the Shop Supervisor.
About the role
The Pipefitter fits and assembles carbon-steel and stainless-steel piping systems in a production fabrication shop, ensuring all assemblies are accurately laid out, plumb, level, and square, ready for welding in accordance with fabrication drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret piping isometric drawings and fabrication blueprints
- Fit and assemble carbon-steel and stainless-steel piping systems
- Measure, lay out, and align piping components to specification
- Assemble premade pipe spools while maintaining proper dimensions and fit up
- Verify all assemblies are plumb, level, and square
- Maintain proper weld gaps and prepare assemblies for welding
- Install and align flanges, elbows, tees, reducers, valves, and other piping components
- Perform quality checks to ensure assemblies meet drawing specifications
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of pipefitting experience
- Experience fitting carbon-steel pipe required
- Stainless-steel pipe experience preferred
- Previous pipe-fabrication shop experience strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret piping isometric drawings
- Working knowledge of swing joints and rolling offsets required
- Strong pipe layout, measuring, and fabrication skills
- Ability to accurately use tape measures, levels, squares, and standard pipefitting tools
- Reliable attendance and ability to work scheduled overtime
Pipefitter Test
Qualified candidates must successfully complete a hands-on pipefitter test:
- Assemble three premade pipe spools from isometric drawings within 3 hours
- All pipe and fittings will be pre-cut and ready for assembly
- A welder will be provided to assist with tack welding
- Candidates are responsible for correctly fitting and assembling each spool
- All assemblies must be plumb, level, and square
- Test evaluates accurate fit up, proper flange orientation, and overall fabrication quality
Pay & Benefits
- $38.00 per hour
- $120 per day worked per diem for qualified travelers
Per diem eligibility requires:
- Permanent residence more than 60 miles from the jobsite
- Working the full scheduled shift each day
- 60 hours per week (6×10-hour shifts, Monday–Saturday)
- Long-term employment
