Pile Driving Foreman

About the Role

This position provides marine project support, supervising ongoing project operations of Foremen and influencing hiring, firing, advancement, and promotion of employees. The incumbent works closely with Barge Foremen, General Superintendent, Project (Field) Engineer, Safety Representative, Boat Captain, and various skilled crafts on-site, upholding Orion’s core values of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, all grounded in Integrity.

Responsibilities

• Work as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure successful completion of marine construction projects.
• Plan and schedule work activities with supervised Foremen, including:
  • Movement of floating rigs between locations
  • Excavation and backfill
  • Concrete foundations
  • Structural steel
  • Pipe fabrication and installation
  • Testing of pipeline systems
  • Isometric drawings for pipe fabrications if required
• Monitor construction time schedules to meet project deadlines.
• Ensure proper permits are secured before work proceeds.
• Inspect equipment visually to confirm proper operation.
• Provide input on hiring, firing, advancement, and promotion of employees.
• Comply with all Orion Safety/Operational Policies and government regulations.
• Train new workers in equipment and tool use.
• Analyze and resolve work problems.
• Maintain time records for the work crew.
• Promote a safe, efficient, and organized work environment.
• Demonstrate safety knowledge concerning chemical and process hazards, including lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, emergency action plans, work permits, CPR/First Aid, and job/contract requirements.
• Collaborate with Project Superintendent, Barge Foreman, Crane Operators, Welders, Laborers, and other crafts to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve Company programs.
• Responsible for personal safety and the safety of co-workers; authorized to stop work if unsafe conditions are observed.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies; report violations promptly.
• Perform related administrative and technical duties as assigned (e.g., certification training, safety training, procedure review).
• Maintain confidentiality of Company proprietary and trade secret information.

Requirements

• Minimum of seven (7) years of marine construction experience on a work barge or equivalent supervisory experience in marine construction.
• Proficiency in handling equipment used for marine operations and knowledge of integrating various crafts (e.g., piledriving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting).
• Previous supervisory experience and certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and hold Foremen and crews accountable for performance excellence.
• Strong influencing and motivational skills for project teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to maintain simple records of time and materials.

• Physical ability to:
  • Walk, step, climb, or move between job site locations, including accessing work barges, boats, vessels, or docks of varying heights.
  • Stand, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for extended periods.
  • Work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Decipher visual and audible changes in dredging activity.
