Pile Driving Foreman

About the Role

This position provides marine project support, supervising ongoing project operations of Foremen and influencing hiring, firing, advancement, and promotion of employees. The incumbent works closely with Barge Foremen, General Superintendent, Project (Field) Engineer, Safety Representative, Boat Captain, and various skilled craftspeople to uphold Orion’s guiding beliefs: Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, all built on Integrity.

Responsibilities

• Work as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure successful completion of marine construction projects.
• Plan and schedule work activities with supervised Foremen, including:
  • Movement of floating rigs between locations
  • Excavation and backfill
  • Concrete foundations
  • Structural steel
  • Pipe fabrication and installation
  • Testing of pipeline systems
  • Isometric drawings for pipe fabrications (if required)
• Monitor construction time schedules to meet project deadlines.
• Ensure proper permits are secured before work proceeds.
• Inspect equipment to confirm proper operation.
• Provide input on hiring, firing, advancement, and promotion of employees.
• Comply with Orion Safety/Operational Policies and government regulations.
• Train new workers in equipment and tool use.
• Analyze and resolve work problems.
• Maintain time records for work crew employees.
• Promote a safe, efficient, and organized work environment.
• Demonstrate safety knowledge for chemical/process hazards, including lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, emergency action plans, work permits, CPR/First Aid, and job/contract requirements.
• Collaborate with Project Superintendent, Barge Foreman, Crane Operators, Welders, Laborers, and other skilled craftspeople to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve Company programs.
• Perform other administrative and technical duties as assigned (e.g., certification training, safety training, procedure review).
• Maintain confidentiality of Company proprietary and trade secret information.

Requirements

• Minimum of seven (7) years of marine construction experience on a work barge or equivalent supervisory experience in marine construction.
• Proficiency in handling equipment used for marine operations and knowledge of integrating various crafts (e.g., piledriving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting).
• Previous supervisory experience and certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and hold Foremen and crews accountable for performance excellence.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to maintain simple records of time and materials.

• Physical ability to:
  • Walk, step, climb, or move between job site locations, including accessing work barges, boats, vessels, or docks of varying heights.
  • Stand, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for extended periods.
  • Work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Decipher visual and audible changes in dredging activity.
