About the role
A full-time staff psychiatrist position is available on the Mental Health Consultation Liaison Team in the VA North Texas Health Care System Mental Health Service (VANTHCS MHS) in Dallas, TX.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric consultation to inpatient medical units and the Emergency Department.
- Skilled in general, psychosomatic and emergency psychiatry.
- Competent in managing individuals with a broad range of clinical problems, including but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, as well as delirium and other psychiatric presentations of medical illness.
- Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary mental health team and collaborate with colleagues of other specialties.
- May assist with coverage of critical need areas based upon the needs of the service.
- May be assigned to act as formal collaborator for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
Requirements
- ABPN or AOBNP board eligibility or certification is required.
- Buprenorphine treatment experience is highly encouraged.
- Significant experience in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry.
- Physical requirements: heavy lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, bending, and ability to distinguish basic colors.
Qualifications
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Experience with buprenorphine, methadone, and clozapine prescribing.
- Exceptional credentials and expertise in the specialty area.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
