About the role

The Psychiatry Service Staff Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care to Veterans referred for Mental Health services within the Psychiatrist's approved privileges. In addition to Veteran care, the Psychiatrist may have responsibilities in other areas such as education and research. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric care in an outpatient setting, identifying Veterans' mental and medical health needs and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs.
  • Serve as the medical subject matter expert within their assigned team.
  • Coordinate activities of other health service personnel, resolve problems affecting Veteran care, and provide appropriate education for the Veteran and/or family members regarding the Veteran's care, condition, and its management.
  • Provide care in accordance with VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines as measured by the Peer Review Program and various quality metrics.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.)
