Physician- Outpatient Psychiatrist

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, and implement treatment for a variety of complex mental health conditions.
• Provide clinical management for conditions such as PTSD, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and others.
• Utilize pharmacological interventions and appropriate referrals for additional studies or psychosocial interventions.
• Inform patients of risks, benefits, and alternative treatments and answer all questions.
• Consult with veterans' families/caregivers and mid-level providers on the assessment, education, and treatment of veterans with complex clinical problems.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and attend relevant meetings.
• Train psychiatric residents as a faculty member with the University of Utah Department of Psychiatry.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training in an approved specialty program leading to board certification.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Board Certification in Psychiatry preferred.

• Basic Requirements: MD or equivalent degree from an approved medical school; current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery; completed residency training in an approved specialty program leading to board certification.
• Additional Requirements: Board Certification or eligibility for board certification in Psychiatry.
