Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations

  • Affords assistance to the physician in assessing patient needs.
  • Carries out direct patient care tasks, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge and follow-up instructions.
  • Formulates the initial database by gathering pertinent information from the patient and family, conducting observations, and evaluating objectively.
  • Documents all relevant information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Executes specialized tests such as audiometry, electrocardiography, inhalation treatments, and certain laboratory procedures as required.
  • Prepares medications and administers injections as directed by the physician.
  • Supports the physician during treatments and procedures.
  • Provides patient education tailored to the situation.
  • Schedules testing and referral appointments for patients as instructed by the physician.
  • Communicates with patients via phone, addressing their issues or referring them to the physician as needed.
  • Follows up with patients as necessary.
  • Cleans and organizes examination rooms according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintains equipment and reports malfunctions to the office manager or appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains medical supply inventory, checks expiration dates, and orders supplies as needed.
  • Develops and updates knowledge of all equipment used in duties.
  • Contributes to a supportive learning environment by encouraging colleagues’ education.
  • Participates in quality assurance reviews of patient care.
  • Engages in departmental quality improvement projects.
  • Promotes the practice mission and philosophy.
  • Projects a positive image of the practice.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications/Training

  • Required: Current South Carolina (or compact state) license as an LPN (SCLLR) in good standing.
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
