Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations

  • Affords assistance to the physician in assessing patient needs.
  • Carries out direct patient care tasks like triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions.
  • Formulates the initial database by gathering pertinent information from the patient and family, conducting observations, and evaluating objectively.
  • Documents all relevant information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Executes specialized tests such as audiometry, electrocardiography, inhalation treatments, and certain laboratory procedures as needed.
  • Prepares medications and administers injections as directed by the physician.
  • Assists the physician during treatments and procedures.
  • Provides patient education tailored to the situation.
  • Schedules testing and referral appointments as instructed by the physician.
  • Communicates with patients via phone, addressing their issues or referring them to the physician.
  • Follows up with patients as necessary.
  • Cleans and organizes examination rooms according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintains equipment and reports malfunctions to the office manager or relevant personnel.
  • Maintains medical supply inventory, checks expiration dates, and orders supplies.
  • Develops and updates knowledge of all equipment used in duties.
  • Contributes to a supportive learning environment by encouraging colleagues’ education.
  • Participates in chart audits and data collection to ensure quality patient care.
  • Engages in departmental Quality Assurance projects.
  • Promotes the practice mission and philosophy.
  • Projects a positive image of the practice.
  • Performs duties of other department personnel as needed.

Qualifications/Training

  • Computer skills are required.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as an LPN (SCLLR) in good standing is required.
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
