Physician Intensivist - Southwest Michigan
About the Role
Bronson Adult Critical Care has an exciting full-time opportunity for a BE/BC Critical Care physician to join an established group of physicians and Advanced Practice Providers. This position involves providing inpatient critical care services at both Bronson Battle Creek Hospital and Bronson Methodist Hospital Medical Intensive Care Units.
Critical care duties include managing a wide variety of patients in Medical, Neurologic, and Cardiothoracic ICUs, working with medical students and residents from Western Michigan University’s School of Medicine, and utilizing the system-wide Epic EMR.
Bronson Healthcare Group serves a ten-county population of one million in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana. The pulmonary division provides both outpatient and inpatient consultation and procedural services.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose illnesses and prescribe/administer treatment for patients suffering from disease or illness.
- Examine patients and obtain medical histories.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Counsel patients on preventive healthcare, hygiene, and diet.
- Provide medical patient care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients.
- Educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection.
- Determine necessary referrals and urgency of follow-up appointments.
- Exercise final medical judgment in all healthcare issues.
- Prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs.
- Order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
- Document all services in the patient medical record.
- Review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
- Consult with the Medical Director and other professionals on patient care and assessment.
- Participate in process improvement, management, and continuing education programs.
- Oversee mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff.
- Assist in resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to federal guidelines.
- Demonstrate commitment to outstanding customer service.
Requirements
- Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) and fellowship-trained in Critical Care.
- Current or pending unrestricted licensure in the state of Michigan.
- Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration.
- Medical degree and 2 years of direct or intern experience.
- Knowledge of professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to providing compassionate and quality patient-centered care.
- Ability to maintain medical staff privileges.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with proper telephone etiquette.
- Ability to perform in a tactful and professional manner.
Work involves high levels of mental/visual fatigue, including interactive and repetitive tasks requiring sustained concentration. The role includes considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (20 pounds or less), and assisting with heavier tasks such as moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.

Schedule
