Physician Intensivist

Essential Job Duties

  • Deliver and direct daily patient care for ICU/IMCU patients.
    • Direct patient care and coordination of care activities.
    • Implement, coordinate, and administer diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
    • Serve as primary coordinator with ultimate responsibility for ICU patients.
    • Direct and coordinate multi-disciplinary critical care rounds.
    • Respond to calls and be present in the ICU within 10 minutes of a request.
    • Evaluate all new patients and requests for admission within 30 minutes.
    • Supervise Mid-Level providers on the Intensivist Service.
  • Oversee daily ICU operations.
    • Ensure intended processes are occurring in intended fashion.
    • Standardize daily ICU operations.
    • Participate in scheduling system to minimize fragmentation of care.
    • Communicate with Critical Care Medical Director and other staff.
    • Participate in educational activities and clinical pathways.
    • Assist in investigation and resolution of quality of care and patient safety issues.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Manage ICU operations.
    • Evaluate and process patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
    • Oversight of quality improvement and performance improvement activities.
    • Facilitate smooth operation of the ICU.
    • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, HIPPA, and hospital policies.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and hospital leadership.
    • Communicate and collaborate on clinical care and services.
    • Assist in resident performance evaluations.
    • Support case management and hospital operational leadership.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects.
    • Develop new strategies to improve outcomes and efficiency.
    • Evaluate outcomes.

Unit Management Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily unit management activities.
    • Evaluate and process patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
    • Ensure compliance with medical staff rules and regulations.
    • Support resident performance evaluations.
    • Collaborate with Mid-Level Providers, Nursing, respiratory and ancillary staff.
    • Implement patient care protocols, policies, and procedures.
    • Monitor and utilize resources effectively.
    • Participate in protocol/guideline development and evaluation.
  • Assure resident and GME trainee compliance and education.
    • Ensure residents comply with medical staff rules and regulations.
    • Support resident performance evaluations.
    • Collaborate with Mid-Level Providers, Nursing, respiratory and ancillary staff.
    • Implement patient care protocols, policies, and procedures.
    • Monitor and utilize resources effectively.
    • Participate in protocol/guideline development and evaluation.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance monitoring and resource optimization.
    • Monitor and evaluate outcomes.
    • Optimize resource utilization.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Surgery or Anesthesia with active subspecialty certificate of Special Qualifications in Critical Care Medicine, or eligible to sit for Critical Care Boards within 1 year of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years Critical Care practice experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine (Doctor Degree).
  • Current state license to practice medicine, DEA and CDS.

  • Excellent motivator and communicator.
  • Ability to work creatively and independently.
  • Fundamental knowledge of PC-based applications.
  • Desire to participate in teaching activities and mentoring of medical students.

Physical Demands

  • Moderate work.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Pay Range

$19—$23 USD
