Physician Pediatric Intensivist - Kalamazoo, Michigan

Bronson Children's Hospital located in Kalamazoo, Michigan is seeking a BC/BE Pediatric Critical Care Physician (Part-Time) who has successfully completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care.

About the role

• Pediatric Intensivists co-manage pediatric traumas, as well as sedations.
• Teaching opportunity with Bronson-Western Michigan University School of Medicine, which partners closely with Bronson physicians and offers nine residency programs including pediatrics, family medicine, and med/peds.
• Transport services for patients referred to Bronson from 19 regional hospitals and other institutions are conducted by ambulance under the supervision of a specially trained transport nurse.
• Bronson’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is an eight-bed unit and the area's only PICU, as well as a four-bed PSDU. The unit draws from a nine-county area in southwest Michigan.
• Bronson is the only hospital that provides pediatric inpatient services in the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose illnesses and prescribe as well as administer treatment for patients suffering from disease or illness.
• Examine patients and obtain medical histories.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Counsel patients regarding preventive healthcare, hygiene, and diet.
• Provide medical patient care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients.
• Educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources.
• Determine required referrals based on examination and patient needs.
• Determine level of urgency for follow-up, referral, or consultation appointments.
• Exercise final medical judgment in all issues of healthcare.
• Prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
• Order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
• Document all services in patient medical records.
• Review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
• Consult with Medical Director and other professionals on staff regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
• Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs.
• Oversee mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff as assigned.
• Assist in resolving complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines.
• Demonstrate commitment to providing outstanding customer service.

Requirements

• BC/BE in Pediatrics (American Board of Pediatrics).
• Graduate from an ACGME accredited program.
• Current unrestricted or pending licensure in the state of Michigan.
• Current Medical License in the state of Michigan.
• Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration.
• Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
• Medical degree and 2 years of direct or intern experience.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with proper telephone etiquette.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to providing compassionate and quality patient-centered care.
• Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, including operating a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time.
• Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less), and assisting with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients.
