Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Medicine, part-time
ChristianaCare is seeking a part-time hybrid advanced practice provider (PA/NP) for the ED callback team. This role ensures timely follow-up of Emergency Department results, working collaboratively within the service line and with other departments.
About the role
You will utilize established protocols to determine the need for further evaluation, testing, or treatment and communicate this information directly to patients and/or other healthcare providers. This is a part-time dayshift position covering 40 hours biweekly, with flexibility for some virtual hours. Coverage includes 7 days a week, including holidays, overseeing results for ChristianaCare’s Delaware and Maryland campuses.
Responsibilities
- Review all results (lab and radiology) for patients discharged from a ChristianaCare Emergency Department.
- Contact patients to inform of pertinent post-discharge results per callback guidelines and perform necessary follow-up actions, including:
- Prescribing medications
- Coordinating outpatient follow-up care
- Providing patient education
- Receive and manage incoming calls from patients and pharmacists to assist with visit-related questions and prescription adjustments.
- Return voicemail messages received during off hours.
- Coordinate transparency for blood and body fluid exposures involving non-ChristianaCare healthcare professionals seen in the Emergency Department.
- Initiate referrals to appropriate resources and services, promoting a collaborative approach to patient care.
- Communicate with other departments/providers as needed (e.g., radiology, lab, inpatient teams, specialists, or family physicians).
- Document in the EHR to maintain complete and accurate records of follow-up care.
- Work with ED Administration residents and ED PA Fellows to educate them on the callback role.
- Perform additional callback-related duties as they arise.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program or Nurse Practitioner Program.
- National certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Unrestricted license in Delaware and license eligibility in Maryland.
- Prescriptive authority and DEA licensure in Delaware; license eligibility for prescriptive authority and DEA licensure in Maryland.
- BLS certification.
Pay
Annual compensation range: $125,361.00 – $161,327.00. The actual salary offered within this range will depend on individual factors such as skills, relevant experience, and qualifications.
