About the Role

The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide comprehensive clinical and surgical care within the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) program under the supervision of a licensed physician. The PA will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients, obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, develop initial assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and implement treatment plans.
  • Manage pre- and post-operative patients, conduct inpatient rounds, and assist with laparoscopic and robotic gynecologic surgeries.
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice and provide patient education and counseling.
  • Document care in the electronic medical record, respond to patient inquiries, and participate in quality improvement and research initiatives.
  • Support educational activities for trainees and staff.
  • Regularly visit pre- and post-operative patients to monitor progress in accordance with Medical System policies and JCAHO standards.
  • Round on inpatients, write progress notes, and relay concerns to the physician.
  • Order laboratory tests, x-rays, special tests, and dressing changes.
  • Notify attending or supervising physician regarding unusual or unexpected events requiring direct consultation.
  • Write orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs as necessary.
  • Assist in preoperative planning, including obtaining clinical photography, measurements, and constructing frames prior to surgery.
  • Collect bone measurement data and records for future reference and research.
  • Interview patients for health history and perform physical examinations, including allergies, past medical conditions, current medications, review of systems, family history, social history, present illness, and complete physical exams.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Licensure by Maryland State Board of Physicians as a Physician’s Assistant.
  • CPR and BLS certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
  • Understanding of principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of patient needs relative to age-specific requirements.

Pay

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Exact salary will depend on geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor, span of control, education/training, and other qualifications.
