About the Role
The Physical Therapist Assistant administers physical therapy treatment plans designed to alleviate pain, restore function, prevent disabilities, and promote overall fitness and health of patients. Implements treatment most appropriate to the patient’s learning style and therapeutic needs, communicating goals with the patient and/or family members, and considering psycho-social, cultural, and spiritual needs based on the plan of care developed by the Physical Therapist.
Provides therapeutic interventions for a wide variety of physical and/or functional limitations related to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, and developmental impairments, documenting progress with measurable and functional goals.
Responsibilities
- Maintain patient records according to hospital policy, including progress and treatment notes, charges, and discharge summaries within regulatory and departmental time guidelines.
- Assist in adjusting schedules to accommodate changes in caseload in the department.
- Meet with Physical Therapists regularly to discuss patient progress and set goals.
- Contribute to the overall performance of the department through professional development strategies (e.g., competency training, clinical instruction, in-service coordination, program leadership, mentoring new hires, and performance improvement initiatives).
- Demonstrate continued professional growth by setting goals and participating in education offerings; independently achieve and maintain CEUs for South Carolina LLR.
- Communicate with physicians, other medical personnel, and members of the interdisciplinary medical team regarding treatment provided, patient progress, complications, recommendations, and clarification of orders.
- Utilize appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patients and staff; ensure an orderly, clean, and safe work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Active South Carolina license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) certification.
