About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a Physical Therapist to support students with disabilities. The primary role involves providing direct and consultative services to students and collaborating with educators to optimize their access to educational environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the functional skills and abilities of students with disabilities and develop treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with regular and special educators to implement Supplemental Aids & Services and Program Modifications.
  • Monitor student progress towards treatment goals and IEP goals.
  • Support students, families, and staff in accessing adaptive equipment and technology.
  • Participate in teacher teams to analyze and address student challenges.
  • Educate staff on underlying motor development conditions and how to support students in the educational environment.
  • Develop and document emergency evacuation procedures for students with significant mobility needs.
  • Promote social emotional learning and behavioral expectations in the classroom.
  • Engage in professional activities to enhance personal professional development.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree or higher from an accredited program for Physical Therapists.
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license as a Physical Therapist.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptations of instructional technology.
  • Understanding of the range of disability conditions present in an educational setting.
  • Excellent collaborative and engagement skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize job duties and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to use data-based decision making.

Qualifications

  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license as a Physical Therapist.
  • Cultural competence to work effectively with all students and families.
  • Strong equity vision for all students.

  • Knowledge of the general developmental needs of students across grade levels.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology and adaptations of instructional technology.

Benefits

MMSD offers a comprehensive compensation package, including:

  • Annual salary minimum of $81,060 (25-26 TE Salary Schedule).
  • Length of contract: 192 days.
  • Employment type: Exempt.

Application Process

Applications are considered on a rolling basis. MMSD will consider applicants who are fully licensed before considering those who are not yet licensed. An application must be on file within 30 days of starting employment with MMSD. Failure to do so will result in the contract being voided. The district does not provide financial support for the continued education required to achieve the certification.
