Physical Therapist - Outpatient - Full Time
Department: Administration – Rehabilitation
Status: Full time, benefits eligible
Hours per week: 40
Schedule: Monday through Friday, normal business hours with some weekend and holiday requirements.
Pay range: $41.10 - $61.65
Education/Experience
- B.S., M.S., or D.P.T degree from accredited physical therapy school.
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration
- Current licensure in the applicable state.
- CPR certification in Basic Life Support, Level C.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to general hospital and departmental policies and procedures to promote a cooperative work environment, including communication, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
- Provides patient care assessment and treatment:
- Ensures evaluations and treatments are comprehensive, functional, and aligned with the Standard of Practice.
- Uses sound professional judgment in interpreting evaluation results and establishing realistic treatment plans with patient-centered goals.
- Encourages patients and significant others in goal-setting.
- Recognizes and responds to changes in the patient’s physiologic state.
- Recommends the next level of care.
- Supervises support staff assisting with patient care by providing direction and feedback.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation:
- Completes written patient evaluations, progress notes, and discharge notes per policy.
- Ensures accurate documentation of patient/family education, charges, departmental statistics, and ICD-10 codes.
- Maintains patient records in a systematic and legible order.
- Meets department financial and productivity standards:
- Understands budgeted expectations.
- Maintains productivity standards.
- Adjusts individual schedules to meet patient and department needs.
- Participates in process management to optimize quality and efficiency:
- Identifies quality and operational opportunities.
- Communicates progress barriers to supervisor.
- Researches and suggests evidence-based best practices to improve patient care quality.
- Promotes professional development and education:
- Conducts in-service training programs to share state-of-the-art information and enhance safety.
- Stays informed about changes/developments in the profession locally, at the state level, and nationally.
- Shares clinical expertise with other therapists, student affiliates, and healthcare professionals.
- Supervises physical therapy and physical therapy assistant students to develop their clinical skills.
- Communicates effectively:
- Communicates professionally and timely with patients, physicians, staff, and external customers.
- Promotes an open atmosphere of communication and shares information from seminars.
- Informs supervisor of issues and resolutions to potential problems.
- Ensures understanding of information communicated to patients and families.
- Provides age/developmentally appropriate patient care:
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to the patients served.
- Utilizes age/developmentally specific data in patient assessments.
- Maintains competence in age/developmentally specific care through ongoing education.
- Provides comprehensive therapeutic patient care to ensure positive patient outcomes.
- Educates patients, significant others, and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of the patient care plan.
- Interacts with other departments and medical team members to develop and implement interdisciplinary patient care plans.

- Able to communicate effectively with patients of all age groups and significant others, adapting to their level of comprehension.
- Possesses knowledge, clinical skills, and understanding of patients across the entire lifespan.
Work Environment
- Subject to stress conditions and moderate noise levels.
- Clean, well-lit, and comfortable climate, though occasional high-moisture conditions may occur.
- Frequent exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens; may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
- Contact with patients under varied circumstances, including home visits.
- Exposure to unpleasant patient elements and body fluids.
- Subject to electro-mechanical hazards and exposure to chemicals used in cleaning.
- Occasionally handles emergency or crisis situations.
- Required personal protective equipment includes eye protection, face protection, gown, mask, lab coat, sterile and non-sterile gloves, and shoe covers.
