Phlebotomy Lab Assistant, Full-time

About the role

The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Corporation Mass General Brigham seeks a full-time Phlebotomist to work either 5:30am-2pm or 6am-2:30pm with occasional shifts from 9:30am-6pm, rotating weekends and holidays. This position offers a generous sign-on bonus of $3,000.

Responsibilities

• Obtains quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
• Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
• May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
• Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure high customer satisfaction.
• Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in compliance with regulatory requirements to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Works fluently with computer programs and systems, complying with HIPAA regulations.
• Performs other test administration and specimen collection as assigned.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience.
• Completion of a phlebotomy course preferred.
• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Experience cannot be accepted in lieu of a degree.

• Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and specimen processing, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
• Possesses good written and oral communication skills, prioritizes work, manages time wisely, and adjusts to changes in work volumes and projects.
• Shows empathy and respects patients' privacy and autonomy, works independently and collaboratively within a team, fosters an inclusive work environment, and respects diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
