Pay

Expected pay for this position is $17.66 - $19.63/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity.

  • Weekend Premium Pay (5/6 Program): Employees participating in the 5/6 Program earn a 20% premium on their base hourly rate for all hours worked between 7:00 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Monday. Hours worked outside of the designated weekend period are paid at the regular base rate.
  • 3rd Shift Differential: Employees working 3rd shift receive an additional $2.25 per hour for all eligible hours worked.

About the Role

The Phlebotomist obtains blood and other specimens from inpatients, outpatients, ED patients, extended care facility patients, physician office patients, clinic patients, and any other offsite location patients for laboratory testing according to licensed physician’s or provider’s orders. Responsibilities include obtaining supplies, verifying patient identification, preparing skin sites, and performing venipuncture and skin punctures using established aseptic techniques. The role also involves labeling specimens, transporting them to the laboratory for analysis, and performing clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory. Duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift.

Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Skills/Knowledge:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail-oriented.
  • Experience:
    • 6 months in a team-oriented environment or customer service role.
    • Completion of a formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months' full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent.
    • Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic.
    • Ability to maintain composure while working under pressure, with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Positive, professional attitude and demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR Certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT).
