Job Title: Phlebotomist IIIJob Description The Phlebotomist III plays a key role in delivering accurate and timely laboratory services by performing blood draws and other specimen collections, troubleshooting issues, supporting training efforts, and recommending improvements to workflow. This position requires strong technical phlebotomy skills, attention to detail in specimen handling and documentation, and the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and clinical staff in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Perform venipunctures and other blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.Collect and store specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, in accordance with established procedures and protocols.Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients, answering questions and addressing concerns.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is complete and accurate.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders, maintaining specimen integrity.Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or orders to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and follow all procedures necessary to maintain appropriate temperature and integrity during transit.Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in the correct collection containers or tubes, applying accurate labels.Follow specific protocols and procedures for different tests and transports to maintain the quality and reliability of specimens.Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks in accordance with laboratory standards and safety guidelines.Update patient information accurately in the system and ensure records are complete and current.Troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection, labeling, and workflow, and make recommendations to improve processes.Fully understand and follow physicians’ orders related to laboratory tests and specimen collection requirements.Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results or information to satisfy inquiries, following appropriate guidelines.Attend annual department trainings and remain current with laboratory procedures, safety regulations, and best practices.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and compliance standards. Essential Skills Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.Phlebotomist with approximately 5 years of experience drawing blood and performing blood collections.Demonstrated proficiency in performing blood draws, including venipunctures, using straight and butterfly needles.Strong attention to detail in labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and storing specimens according to test requirements.Ability to accurately match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes and verify information for complete accuracy.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation, data entry, and communication tasks.High School Diploma or GED, with 5–7 years of overall experience in a related healthcare or laboratory setting.Thorough understanding of physicians’ orders and the ability to follow detailed laboratory test instructions.Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and the ability to comply with all safety and regulatory requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong communication skills to explain procedures to patients in a clear, courteous, and professional manner.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple specimens and tasks with accuracy.Experience updating patient information and maintaining accurate records in electronic or paper-based systems.Comfort with answering telephone inquiries and reading laboratory results to internal stakeholders as appropriate.Demonstrated ability to participate in and benefit from ongoing department trainings and process improvements.Ability to identify workflow issues and contribute constructive recommendations to enhance efficiency and quality. Work Environment This role operates in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting where accuracy, safety, and patient care are top priorities. You will work with a variety of specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, using equipment such as centrifuges and temperature-controlled storage units. The environment requires strict adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations, established laboratory protocols, and annual training requirements. Work involves frequent interaction with patients, clinical staff, and other laboratory personnel, with regular use of computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication. The setting emphasizes professionalism, cleanliness, and compliance with all safety and infection control procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Imperial, CA. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.70 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
