Phlebotomist I OR II

Responsibilities

• Obtain quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods (venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections) for all age groups.
• Respond rapidly to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes.
• Work both independently and as part of a team in an inclusive environment.
• Interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.
• Use a variety of computer programs and systems daily.
• Perform accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation.
• Answer phones and assist with training students and new employees.
• Complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Experience working in a medical field preferred.
• Willingness to travel to other MCHS locations as needed.
• Ability to push a cart and walk distances.
• Moderate to advanced computer skills.
• Good written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize work, manage time, and adjust to changes in work volumes.
• Excellent customer service skills.

License or Certification

To qualify for Phlebotomist II, the applicant must possess a valid phlebotomy certification from an approved agency such as ASCP, NHA, or ASPT. Certificates from a technical college course are not sufficient. Alternatively, valid certifications include Medical Assistant (MA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Technologist (MT). Ongoing maintenance for certifications is not required.

Pay

Health System: The pay range for Phlebotomist I is $20.00 - $25.09 per hour. The pay range for Phlebotomist II is $20.00 - $26.79 per hour.

Schedule

• Full Time (64 hours per pay period).
• Schedule Details: Mon-Friday with split shifts between evening (1:30 PM or 3:00 PM start) and day shifts (6:30 AM - 8:30 AM start).
• Every 3rd weekend on rotation.
• Included in a pool to cover night shifts and nursing home draws.
