Responsibilities
- Help patients and co-workers perform blood collection and specimen processing, assisting with clerical duties as requested
- Maintain laboratory collection turnaround time and ensure accurate specimen processing
- Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions
- Possess excellent customer service and time management skills
- Comply with isolation and hand sanitization procedures
- Follow blood collection procedures, perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups, utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples, and adhere to appropriate volume requirements
- Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms
- Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions
- Establish and maintain good communication within the department and with other hospital departments
- Perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations. Utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements
- Accelerate critical laboratory turnaround times through expert specimen processing, efficiently handle essential clerical duties, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where your precision and efficiency directly contribute to saving lives and advancing medical understanding
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Excellent customer service and time management skills
- American Heart Association BLS Provider certification within 90 days
Preferred
- Phlebotomy certificate
- Three (3) months of phlebotomy in an acute care facility
