Job Summary

About the role

Provides clerical and phlebotomy support for the clinic and hospital laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood samples by using appropriate venipuncture and/or capillary puncture techniques.
• Labels samples accurately and completely.
• Instructs patients in the proper collection of urine samples.
• Collections samples for Urine Drug testing. Complies with the Department of Transportation guidelines.
• Collects throat and nasopharyngeal samples.
• Processes and accession samples according to established policies and procedures.
• Processes paperwork for routing samples to the appropriate reference lab.
• Maintains clean, organized work environment.
• Distributes lab reports to the appropriate areas.
• Faxes and mails lab reports as needed.
• Answers the phone and transfers calls to the appropriate department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification and/or a minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience.
• Ability to treat all information as confidential.

Qualifications

• Detail oriented.
• Positive attitude and flexibility during routine work day.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Well groomed, tactful, patient, pleasant and customer focused.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts and weekend rotations.
• Basic computer skills.
• Prior laboratory or health care experience preferred.
