PhD position in RNA Modifications in the Ruggieri Lab at Heidelberg University

About the role

This project aims to explore how the cardiotropic virus Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) modifies the epitranscriptomic landscape of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes, influencing infection outcomes and cardiac remodeling in viral myocarditis. It also investigates CVB3 genome RNA modifications and their impact on viral replication and spread.

Responsibilities

• Investigate CVB3-induced changes in the epitranscriptome of cardiomyocytes
• Analyze CVB3 genome RNA modifications using Nanopore direct RNA sequencing
• Develop and apply advanced molecular biology techniques
• Collaborate with experts in RNA biology and computational cardiology
• Contribute to the understanding of RNA modification-driven processes in infectious and cardiac pathologies
• Advance the development of RNA-based diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for myocarditis

Requirements

• Master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, virology, or a related field
• Strong background in standard molecular biology techniques
• Passion for RNA biology and synthetic/translational RNA applications
• Highly organized and reliable with strong initiative
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Interest in developing into an independent scientist
