About the role
Sentara is hiring an IV Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician at Norfolk General Hospital. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates.
This is a full-time position (40 hrs/wk) with a rotating 10-hour shift (4 days per week), including every other weekend and holiday rotation. Shift hours are 6am-11pm.
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician performs technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. This role demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area, including:
- Competently working independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
- Training in advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
- Assuming local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
- Participating in the training of new employees
- Filling and delivering medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
- Ensuring adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
- Triaging and escalating any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
- Using appropriate systems for processing patient information
- Ensuring quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Operating pharmacy equipment appropriately
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
- Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
- CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required)
- 5 years of pharmacy experience (Required)
- 2 years of IV or sterile compounding experience (Required)
