Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding

About the role
The Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Compounding supports the preparation of infusion medications for home delivery patients as part of the Home Delivery pharmacy team. This role is primarily focused on sterile compounding within the cleanroom environment, rotating between antibiotic and TPN hoods to prepare specialized infusion therapies. Working in a highly controlled setting, this caregiver plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, safe, and timely preparation of compounded medications for patients receiving care at home.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts from 11:00am to 7:30pm
- Weekend rotation every 7–8 weeks
- Holiday coverage is rotational (8:30am to 5:00pm), typically two per year (one winter, one summer)
- On-call responsibilities align with the scheduled weekend, covering Tuesday to Friday prior from 7:30pm to 7:00am, with on-call pay provided
- No floating is required
Responsibilities
- Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding
- Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner
- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training
- Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks
- Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:
- Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
- Must hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
- If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee, it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire
- Note: A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of hospital experience
- Prior inpatient experience
Physical Requirements
- Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching, and sitting for prolonged periods
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay
- Pay Range Minimum hourly: $21.50
- Maximum hourly: $31.00
