Pharmacy Technician II: HOI Pharmacy

Responsibilities

• Provide service to customers coming to the pharmacy, answer telephones, assemble floor stock medications, refill Pyxis machines, transport medications to and from nursing floors and departments, and pre-pack and label medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Project an image of professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
• Maintain a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Assist pharmacists with all aspects of departmental operations, including but not limited to:
  • IV admixture and operation of IV workflow manager system
  • Unit dose order fills
  • Infusion pharmacy support
  • Medication charging functions
  • TPN mixing, manually or using an auto-mixer
• Perform floor stock inspections.
• Perform timely and accurate delivery of controlled substances to patient care areas.
• Perform Pyxis override and ED audits.
• Prepare anesthesia drug trays and operate the TraySafe system, prepare emergency drug trays and crash cart replenishments independently according to pharmacy law.
• Perform Tech-check-Tech functions according to department policy and procedures.
• Perform home medication information collection in ED and on nursing units.
• Perform chemotherapy or biohazardous drug mixing under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Working skills in general mathematics and familiarity with medication and medical terminology.
• Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification agency.
• ASHP Accredited Technician Program graduate preferred.
• For Interns: Current enrollment in an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy preferred.

Qualifications

License Required:

• Technician: California Board of Pharmacy Technician License (TCHRX).
• Intern: Pharmacy Intern License (INTRX) or California Board of Pharmacy Technician License (TCHRX).

Certifications Preferred:

• Certified Pharmacy Technician issued by the PTCB (CPhT).
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
