Pharmacy Technician

About the Role

As a Pharmacy Technician, you’ll assist with the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations, using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. You’ll also assist and coach other pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures while delivering the highest level of quality healthcare.

Supervision is received from the Pharmacist, who reviews work for attainment of desired objectives and conformity with departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Review and comply with the Pharmacy Technician Code of Conduct.
  • Assist healthcare providers and patients by greeting them in person or by phone, answering questions, and referring inquiries to the Pharmacist as needed.
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock, anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs.
  • Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and create claims for order errors and damaged goods.
  • Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform duties assigned by the Pharmacist, such as utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy, filling prescriptions, and checking for possible drug interactions.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the Pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors and quality improvement.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, Medicare, and co-pay requirements.
  • Engage patients by offering assistance, resolving issues, and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Register all related sales on an assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required.
  • Direct and assist team members to maintain workflow and meet deadlines as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacist on duty.
  • Process claims for third-party reimbursement efficiently and correctly to obtain payment from insurance providers.
  • Maintain certification and licensure as required by state regulations, attend training, and complete continuing education credits.
  • Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and modified at the manager’s discretion.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis above the minimum required.
  • Board of Pharmacy technician registration; maintain current licensure and certification for the state.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a pharmacy setting, including pharmacy/medical data entry experience.
  • Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
  • This position may require nationwide travel for training and support purposes.

Skills

  • Knowledge of ChenMed products, services, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, meet deadlines, and be flexible.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Spoken and written fluency in English.

Pay

The posted pay range represents the base hourly rate for this position: $17.00 - $24.26 per hour. Final compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant considerations. This position may also be eligible for bonuses or commissions.
