About the role
Sentara is hiring a Full‑time Inpatient Pharmacy Technician in Training at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.
Schedule
- Full‑time (40 hrs/wk) with rotating 8‑hour shifts.
- Typical shift hours: 6 am – 11 pm, with occasional overnight coverage.
- Every other weekend required.
- Holiday rotation as needed to meet pharmacy staffing needs.
Responsibilities
- Performs care delivery and dispensing under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.
- Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed.
- Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information.
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
- Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program or Guild Program.
- Certification as a technician‑in‑training within 30 days of hire in the state of practice (must register as a pharmacy technician‑in‑training in Virginia).
- Previous pharmacy experience is preferred.
