Position Summary

Processes member purchases by operating cash registers and related hardware, maintains merchandise presentation, monitors and resolves prescription fulfillment issues, and provides patient member service.

What you'll do...

  • Processes member purchases by operating cash registers and related hardware, using appropriate procedures for different payment types and items sold.
  • Maintains merchandise presentation in the pharmacy by stocking and rotating merchandise and supplies, removing damaged or out-of-date goods, setting up cleaning and organizing product displays, signing and pricing merchandise, and securing fragile and high shrink merchandise.
  • Maintains the Pharmacy area in accordance with company policies and procedures by properly handling claims and returns, utilizing equipment to perform merchandising functions, and ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Makes sure the prescription fulfillment process runs smoothly by processing information for third-party insurance claims, rescanning illegible images, alerting patients to inventory issues, and identifying situations requiring pharmacist action.
  • Promotes and maintains the Pharmacy's professional reputation by assisting the pharmacist in the prescription fulfillment process, processing third-party insurance claims, and providing patients with pharmacy products and services.
  • Provides patient member service by acknowledging the member, identifying member needs, initiating the prescription fulfillment process, assisting with purchase decisions, locating over-the-counter merchandise, and maintaining a safe shopping environment.
  • Enters prescription data into pharmacy software, reads the prescription, translates prescription information into corresponding system codes, transcribes appropriate prescription data, and creates or modifies patient member records.
  • Fills prescriptions by retrieving prescription orders, counting, pouring, measuring, or weighing medication, selecting filling and labeling prescription containers, operating scanning equipment, and ensuring prescription accuracy.
  • Verifies and enters patient information into the TaSCO system, marking appropriate prescriptions for pickup, retrieving prescription bags from will call bins, scanning security tags, gathering electronic signatures, and using TaSCO to log the sale of restricted pharmaceutical items.
  • Completes work assignments and priorities by using policies, data, and resources, collaborating with managers, coworkers, customers, and other business partners, identifying priorities, deadlines, and expectations, carrying out tasks, communicating progress and information, determining and recommending ways to address improvement opportunities, and adapting to and learning from change.
  • Complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity by implementing related action plans, using the Open Door Policy, and applying these in executing business processes and practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Mets all state requirements to work as a Pharmacy Technician, such as minimum age, qualification, registration, certification, and/or licensure when required by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must obtain National Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT) within 9 months of job entry.

Additional Information

Live Better U is a company-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. Programs range from high school completion to bachelor's degrees, including English Language Learning and short-form certificates. Tuition, books, and fees are completely paid for by Walmart.

The hourly wage range for this position is $19.00 to $27.00*. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
