About the Role

Assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care services for the hospital. Prepares and processes medication under pharmacist supervision, checks nursing units for proper medication storage, performs bulk compounding, and records patient or medication information on computer for pharmacist validation as required by State law. Prepares IVs, sets up TPN compounder for pharmacist compounding, and orders, stocks, and transports pharmaceutical supplies as needed. Responds to patients, families, visitors, and employees courteously and collaboratively, considering unique patient needs and demonstrating age-specific competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skills specific to the licensure requirements of this position.
  • Completes work in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Responds to variations in workload and demonstrates willingness to learn and accept additional duties as requested by the pharmacist.
  • Works closely with the supervising pharmacist and the pharmacy buyer, demonstrating effective organizational skills and requiring minimal supervision.
  • Shows initiative, self-direction, and knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures related to this position.
  • Demonstrates good mathematical skills and documents/communicates information clearly and legibly in a timely manner.
  • Maintains an appropriate level of computer skills to perform duties and ensures confidentiality and privacy of patients and families.
  • Acts professionally and respectfully, treating patients, families, and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Accepts direction and delegation positively and demonstrates awareness of patient, family, and staff safety, including infection control risks.
  • Completes work in a timely manner and actively seeks direction from the pharmacist when assignments are done.
  • Completes continuing education courses to maintain technician certification annually and maintains IV certification by completing a didactic course/exam yearly.
  • Prepares basic IVs under pharmacist supervision and sets up IV compounder for cardioplegic and TPN solution preparation by a pharmacist.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Arkansas State Board Pharmacy Technician license required.
  • PTCB certification preferred.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required.

Schedule

Flexible schedule to cover all shifts and weekends as hospital needs demand.
