Job Summary

Position Summary The individual in this position will assist in preparing, packaging, delivering, and charging of medications, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Position duties include the following activities:

• fill and label medications
• stock medications into pharmacy inventory
• restock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)
• maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications
• deliver medications to patient care areas
• attend to medication requests and phone calls
• prepare IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products
• assist in Pharmacy quality assurance activities
• comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures
• assist pharmacists in performing various duties as assigned

Responsibilities

- The individual’s responsibilities include the following activities:

• a) accurately fill medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner
• b) assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing
• c) respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins
• d) refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits accurately and timely
• e) accurately stock ADCs in a timely manner
• f) prepackage and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations
• g) prepare IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products accurately consistent with IV policies and procedures (USP797 and USP800)
• h) restock medications in IV room and conform to IV cleaning schedule
• i) complete monthly medication inspections as assigned
• j) maintain quality assurance logs with proper documentation and notify Supervisor of any deviations from standards
• k) adhere to pharmacy technician operational workflow and delivery schedule
• l) follow proper process for handling of controlled substances and report any variances to Supervisor or pharmacist-in-charge
• m) ensure patient accounts are properly charged
• n) acts under the supervision of facility DEA registrant or other Licensed Independent Practitioners while performing medication management related activities at a remote site commonly owned and operated by the Hospital
• o) other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Must be willing to work in all areas of the pharmacy services as assigned.
• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with team members required.

- Minimum Requirements:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent GED
• Experience: Two (2) years of hospital pharmacy experience.
• Licensure/Certification: Licensed in the State of Arizona as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Technician certification

- Preferred Requirements:

• Experience: Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. IV experience preferred. Good organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and basic computer skills preferred.
