About the Role

The Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in providing medication and other health care products to patients, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with applicable board of pharmacy requirements, state and federal laws.
  • Prepare prescriptions for dispensing by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, and mixing medication.
  • Make requisitions for drugs and supplies with guidance from pharmacists.
  • Order, receive, and maintain inventory of drugs and chemicals, ensuring their security.
  • Verify prescription information for completeness and accuracy.
  • Enter data into the computer system, recording prescriptions, purchase orders, requisitions, and disbursements.
  • Perform general clerical duties, such as answering phones and operating a cash register.
  • Maintain patient record confidentiality.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Attend in-service training as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Current Pharmacy Technician license and PTCB certification in good standing.
  • Maintain all continuing education required by the state.

Skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn other required software.
  • Ability to maintain a neat and organized workspace.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in busy or stressful situations.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Courteous, friendly, and customer-service oriented attitude.

Working Conditions

  • Personal contact with staff, patients, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Must be able to lift over 20 lbs, bend, stoop, crouch, walk, push, pull, and stand for long periods.
  • Exposure to chemicals is possible.
  • Hearing, speech, and vision must be adequate for in-person and phone duties.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels and work closely with others.

Equipment Used

  • Medical equipment for customer care.
  • Computer and various software programs.
  • Copy machine, fax machine, and telephone.

OSHA Task Category III: Tasks involve little or no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

Responsible for compliance with all policies and procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
