Miami, FL – On Call/Pool position at JMH Retail Pharmacy Services, Jackson Memorial Hospital.
About the role
The Pharmacy Registered Technician works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists, providing an intermediate level of assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution, and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical-related supplies.
Responsibilities
- Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure established by policy.
- Troubleshoots problems related to the operation of automated drug distribution machines; forwards unresolved concerns to the appropriate individual in a timely manner.
- Prepares sterile products (add-a-vials, syringes, IV admixtures, chemotherapy, large volume parenteral) following standard procedures and under the supervision and check of a licensed pharmacist.
- Ensures all quality-related procedures are followed.
- Inputs information into the Hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested.
- For areas not served by point-of-care automated dispensing equipment, assures required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures.
- Performs extemporaneous compounding and prepackaging under pharmacy policy guidelines and the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Orders and receives medication inventory; rotates stock and checks expiration dates routinely.
- Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of medication assets.
- Maintains assigned area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Assembles, tabulates, and analyzes quality improvement data when requested.
- Assists in reports and survey tabulation when requested.
- Performs monthly patient care center reviews, as assigned, and enters data into the specialized computer system.
- Attends orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge.
- Participates in required educational programs, including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, and age-related special needs and behaviors.
- Ensures a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to dispensing.
- Consults with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as required by Florida Statutes for exceptions to policy that benefit the patient.
- Refers clinical questions to a pharmacist.

- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma is required.
- Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT).
- Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
