Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - Emergency Medicine

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated emergency medicine-trained pharmacist to join Boston Medical Center, a large academic medical center, as a Clinical Specialist on a team of critical care and emergency medicine pharmacists. The Clinical Specialist will have a focused practice site in our Emergency Department covering a variety of shifts.

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is one of the busiest Emergency Departments in New England, with more than 130,000 annual visits, and is in the top 15 busiest in the country. Pharmacy services at BMC are indispensable and highly integrated at the front-line level for patient care and into the broader leadership level of the organization.

Residency and student training will be a central component of this position. BMC has both PGY1 residents and PGY2 programs in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Administration, and Ambulatory Care. The Clinical Specialist will be expected to lead and participate in novel quality improvement projects that improve the care of critically ill patients and advance pharmacy practice. There will also be opportunities for professional growth and advancement as the Pharmacy Department seeks to further advance practice by striving to be leaders in quality improvement and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing drug therapy.
• Provides drug information to patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
• Educates pharmacists, residents, and students.
• Serves as a resource and drug expert in one of the seven specialty areas.
• Increases knowledge through research and writing activities.
• Coordinates the acquisition, distribution, and control of drug therapy for patients under the care of the pharmacist, as necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and at least five years of pertinent work experience, or
• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and post-graduate training, with at least three years of pertinent work experience, or
• Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy with post-graduate training or at least two years of pertinent work experience.
• Licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts by the hire date.

Pay

Compensation range: $112,000.00–$162,500.00. This range is based on minimum job qualifications and considers factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Geographic location may modify the range.
