About the role
The Pharmacy Buyer Supervisor is an advanced role within the Pharmacy department at UVMMC. This role is crucial for ensuring that all medications are procured and distributed efficiently across the hospital and affiliated settings.
Responsibilities
- Ensures adequate stock of medications including controlled substances, oncology medications, specialty medications, and non-stock purchases for inpatient and clinical settings.
- Oversees the procurement and distribution of medications, coordinating workflows in the storeroom area.
- Manages same-day shipments, emergency requests, and searches for supply of needed items even when they are unavailable from routine vendors.
- Works with the UVMMC Hemophilia team to manage consignment Factor (lifesaving blood products).
- Incorporates product specifications, clinical considerations, product availability, cost reduction strategies, and quality assurance into purchasing functions.
- Works with multiple vendors to set up new vendors, contracts, and payment terms with Accounts Payable.
- Oversees distribution management, sets par levels, and manages formulary lists for each clinic destination.
- Collaborates with pharmacy informatics, EPIC Willow team, pharmacists, physicians, and nurses to ensure proper setup and readiness for medication distribution.
- Works with the resuscitation committee to keep emergency crash carts up-to-date with medication and supply changes.
- Oversees workflows, projects, and training new employees.
- Maintains and updates the daily work schedule for the Inventory Compliance Specialists team.
- Manages medication shortages and drug recalls in conjunction with other pharmacy personnel.
Requirements
- Education: Associates degree in business or 2 years of college course work with emphasis in business or inventory management, or technical school diploma.
- License: Pharmacy Technician license in the State of Vermont.
- Experience: 2 years of experience with inventory/stocking systems or related business background, or 4 years of experience in pharmacy medication acquisition/distribution. Experience with supervising individuals is preferred.
- Additional: 3-5 years of Pharmacy experience and knowledge of 340B programs.
