About the Role

The Supervisor of Pharmacy Automation Systems reports to the respective Pharmacy Leader within Pharmacy Shared Services. This role involves developing, building, implementing, and supporting pharmacy automation systems, providing direct oversight and leadership to a team of pharmacy technician specialists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks, and database analysts. Responsibilities include policy and procedure development, training oversight, store planning, IT budget and capital assistance, and identifying opportunities to streamline patient care and improve pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day supervision and support of Pharmacy Automation Systems, including:
    • Automated dispensing cabinets across the health system.
    • Pharmacy dispensing devices such as carousel technologies, cabinets, and packagers.
    • Automated packaging solutions for regulatory-compliant unit-dose packaging of medications (ambient air, cold chain, hazardous, whole-tab, half-tab, syringe, oral liquid, and topical dosage forms).
    • Sterile compounding automation within sterile cleanrooms.
    • Other pharmacy systems supporting enterprise operations (e.g., controlled substance diversion software, federal drug supply chain compliance software, cold chain monitoring software).
  • Ensures Pharmacy Automation Systems’ software and hardware function appropriately to support pharmacy operations via the hub-spoke model through the centralized pharmacy services center.
  • Interacts and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs and challenges.
  • Collaborates with corporate and division teams to track and analyze financial data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Management, Health Administration, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in medication procurement, pharmacy sourcing, and medication inventory management in a healthcare setting.
  • At least five (5) years of pharmacy technician experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience with pharmacy dispensing systems, inventory management, and automation (preference for BD Pyxis, ARxIUM Carousels, and RxWorks).
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of 340B preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in coordinating activities and developing improved operational services.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead work groups effectively.
  • Knowledge of managed care and progressive pharmacy practice.
  • Strong time management, team building, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Henry Ford Health business practices and competency in procurement.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people under sometimes stressful situations.
  • Motivation to provide high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Current State of Michigan pharmacy technician licensure required.
