What You Will Do

  • Interprets, processes, and monitors medication orders issued by providers for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
  • Provides medication information on the proper usage, desired effects and potential adverse effects and performs inventory control measures during medication distribution and administration, providing patients optimal medication resources in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, Code of Ethics, and policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies for safe medication delivery.
  • Supervises Pharmacy Technicians in unit dosage, intravenous admixture and prescription preparation/distribution.
  • Mentors students, interns, technicians, and others with developing career plans or professional development.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and promotes patient safety.
  • Recommends changes within the department and facility to improve quality of care and services.
  • Performs functions related to clinical activities such as kinetics, medication therapy monitoring, medication information, and educational programs.
  • Makes routine analysis of patient’s medication therapy, medical problems, laboratory data, and special procedures, as well as correlating these analyses with other clinicians responsible for the patient’s care to provide a continuum of care throughout the hospital system.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.

Required Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience

  • Pharmacist - Board of Pharmacy active in state of practice

Preferred Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience

  • Doctorate (PHD) Pharmacy
