Pharmacist PRN

About the role

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, the Staff Pharmacist performs all duties necessary to provide effective daily operation of all pharmacy departmental services and programs at Cottonwood Creek Behavioral Hospital, an Oceans Healthcare Company providing specialty behavioral health services for individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues.

Responsibilities

• Compounds, labels, and dispenses medications and IV admixtures.
• Provides therapeutic drug monitoring by profiling physician orders.
• Performs computer order entry of physician orders to build medication profiles.
• Facilitates IV/oral medication preparation and dispensing.
• Supervises pharmacy technicians in their daily duties.
• Provides pharmacokinetic drug dosing when requested by a physician.
• Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician request according to established policy, procedure, and protocol.
• Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies.
• Interprets medication orders and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately.
• Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile and parenteral nutrition products accurately.
• Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose; detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions.
• Provides clinical consultation, clarification, and drug information as needed to practitioners and/or patients.
• Participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education, and training programs to pharmacy, medical, nursing, and other staff members.
• Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
• Documents all clinical interventions promptly and accurately.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients and family members.
• Assists other pharmacy staff members as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Current license to practice pharmacy in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 6 months of experience; hospital experience preferred.

• Strong mathematical and computer literacy skills.

Work Environment

• Occupational risks (less than 50% of daily assignments): cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, injuries from falls, or back injury sustained with assisting in moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials.
• No required use of safety equipment (e.g., HEPA mask) for infection prevention.
• Bloodborne pathogens exposure: OSHA Category I – exposure not anticipated.
• Ergonomic risks (less than 50% of daily assignments): regular repetitive tasks, forceful or prolonged exertions of the hands, vibration, cold temperatures, heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, or carrying of heavy objects, poor body mechanics, restrictive workstations, or awkward postures.
• Lifting: up to 30 pounds.
• Manual skills: significant portions (more than 50%) of daily assignments involve motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity (e.g., typing or machine operations).
• Physical effort: less than 50% of daily assignments involve prolonged standing, transporting patients/material/equipment, or lifting/moving/carrying heavy (over 30 pounds) materials for intermittent periods.
• Travel: less than 50% of daily assignments require travel to client/resident/patient locations or other work sites via car or public transportation.
• Work schedule: may require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments on occasion.
• Physical environment: generally pleasant working conditions.
• Volatility of workload: infrequent minor changes.
