Facility: Community Medical Center – Pharmacy Department (Per Diem, Evening shift). Location: 99 Highway 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.

About the Role

The Pharmacist I at RWJBarnabas Health delivers safe, effective pharmaceutical care across a diverse patient population, from neonatal to geriatric. Working with clinical judgment and independence, the pharmacist prepares, dispenses, and monitors medications while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and maintain the highest standards of medication safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Review, verify, and dispense medication orders to ensure accuracy, safety, and appropriate therapy for patients of all ages.
• Prepare and verify sterile and non‑sterile medications, including IV admixtures, in accordance with established policies and regulatory standards.
• Evaluate medication regimens for appropriateness, drug interactions, allergies, dosing, and therapeutic effectiveness.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams to provide clinical recommendations and optimize medication therapy.
• Supervise and support pharmacy technicians to ensure medication accuracy, regulatory compliance, and efficient pharmacy operations.
• Provide medication counseling, education, consultative services, and Medication Therapy Management when appropriate.
• Monitor patient responses to therapy and recommend adjustments based on clinical findings and evidence‑based practices.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all federal, state, hospital, and pharmacy regulations.
• Identify, document, and report medication variances, safety concerns, hazardous conditions, and potential medical errors according to organizational policies.
• Support safe medication distribution and inventory management while maintaining compliance with controlled‑substance and medication‑handling requirements.
• Serve as a clinical resource for healthcare providers by answering medication‑related questions and providing pharmaceutical expertise.
• Complete required departmental competencies, continuing education, and mandatory training to maintain clinical excellence.
• Perform additional departmental responsibilities as assigned to support quality patient care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE‑accredited college of pharmacy or an equivalent foreign pharmacy program (required).
• Current New Jersey Registered Pharmacist license in good standing (required).
• Familiarity with all phases of hospital pharmacy practice (required).
• Working knowledge of public health principles and federal and state pharmacy regulations (required).
• Understanding of the role of the hospital pharmacy department and its collaboration with other clinical departments (required).
• Successful completion of departmental orientation and required competency assessments (required).
• Ability to work per diem day or evening shifts as needed.
• Advanced pharmacy degree preferred.

Pay

Hourly rate: $72.45 per hour (reflects anticipated wage range for New Jersey; actual compensation depends on education, skills, and experience).

Schedule

Evening shift, per diem basis.
