About the role

The Pharmacist I - Staff Pharmacist performs distributive and operational duties to ensure the safe and effective use of medications within the hospital. This role supports core pharmacy functions, including order verification, medication dispensing, sterile product preparation, and medication inventory management. The position provides drug information to healthcare providers, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and contributes to departmental quality and safety initiatives. Primarily based in the central pharmacy, the role may include limited clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret and verify medication orders, ensuring appropriateness of dose, route, frequency, and therapeutic indication.
  • Dispense medications in accordance with established policies and procedures, maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare and label medications for dispensing, including unit dose medications, IV admixtures, and controlled substances.
  • Monitor patient medication profiles for drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications; identify and resolve drug-related problems.
  • Provide drug information and consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals; research and answer drug information inquiries.
  • Adhere to USP and guidelines for sterile compounding, including proper garbing, aseptic technique, and environmental monitoring.
  • Prepare sterile IV admixtures and other compounded sterile products accurately and safely.
  • Participate in the maintenance and cleaning of the cleanroom and compounding equipment.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of pharmaceuticals; receive and store incoming medications and supplies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and medication safety programs; maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all New York State and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice, including those outlined in the Education Law and Part 63 of the Commissioner's Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current pharmacist license in good standing in New York State.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Completion of ASHP residency program.

Pay

$99,242.25 - $158,744.19

Schedule

  • Shift: Evenings
  • Shift Hours Worked: 8.00
  • FTE: 1 (Full-Time)
  • Work Schedule: Salaried General
