Location: Unity Hospital, Rochester, NY 14626 – Inpatient Pharmacy

Full-time position with a rotating schedule covering days, evenings, and every 4th weekend.

About the role

Works collaboratively with all health care providers to optimize patient care. Responsible for overall dispensing duties, preparation of IV admixtures, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field to function as a drug consultant to all members of the medical profession. Coordinates activities of the Pharmacy Department in accordance with established policies and procedures of Unity Health System Pharmacy. Assists in providing pharmaceutical services, including advising providers on drug use and control within the assigned hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes, including advising providers on issues concerning drug therapy, inherent toxicity of drugs and side effects, and assisting in the prescription of appropriate doses.
  • Coordinate the activities of assigned pharmacy technicians engaged in the preparation, labeling, and delivery of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with providers’ prescriptions; ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations about the dispensing of drugs and controlled substances and the maintenance of required records.
  • Maintain liaison relationships with medical and nursing staff; provide timely information about pharmaceutical supplies, drug usage and compatibilities, state and federal regulations regarding drug controls, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Prepare TPN, chemotherapy, and other IV products.
  • Conduct and evaluate medication histories, assess compliance, and suggest modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Mentor and supervise pharmacists in training, including pharmacy interns; activities should include both practical and didactic components.
  • Utilize independent judgment to assemble facts, determine variations from standard procedures, or plan other actions to ensure the operation of the pharmacy; suggest improvements in work methods.
  • Individualize medication regimens using sound principles, accounting for pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic variations in drug absorption.
  • Anticipate and contribute to management and professional committees and special meetings at the hospital and community levels.
  • Stay informed on developments and trends inside and outside the hospital that relate to assigned functions; participate in hospital in-service programs when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacy Management efficiently and cooperatively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree.
  • Current New York State Pharmacist License.
  • Three years of hospital experience preferred or demonstrated ability to achieve positive patient outcomes in a similar environment.

Physical Requirements

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.

Pay

Base pay range: $120,640.00 – $166,400.00.
