Responsibilities
- Perform various clerical and administrative duties requiring considerable judgment.
- Interview applicants to determine scope of proposed work; approve and issue permits for mechanical work, minor construction, alteration, and repairs of structures.
- Provide permit information and answer questions from designers, applicants, and contractors.
- Verify cost estimates, compute permit fees, process submitted plans, and complete permit applications.
- Maintain inspection scheduling records, coordinate with field inspectors, and prepare reports and schedules for inspectors and manager.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
- Two years of clerical experience related to engineering, construction technology, architectural operations, or code enforcement work.
- One year of college-level coursework in engineering, construction technology, or a construction-related science may substitute for one year of experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain it as a condition of continued employment.
Qualifications
Promotional
- Must be a full-time or part-time permanent employee in pay grade 112 (Wage) or below, pay grade 21 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent.
- Must have been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position.
- Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection.
Open Competitive
- Final appointment contingent upon passing a job-related medical examination and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.
- Identical scores will be broken by random selection.
Notes
- Examination dates and times are subject to change.
- Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination.
- Applicants on the Promotional eligible list will be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list.
- Applicants must provide all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement for their application to be considered.
Background Check
- A background investigation is required prior to employment, including for current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, or demotion into a classified position.
Drug and Nicotine Testing
- Final appointment contingent upon passing a drug screen.
- Applicants offered employment must pass a nicotine screening and remain tobacco and nicotine-free as a condition of continued employment (does not apply to current City employees).
